Bernadette is passionate about achieving the goal of zero medical errors. She has conducted research on how to manage life-threatening emergencies in the OR. She is also one of the investigators in a study focusing on using telemedicine to improve patient safety in those having surgery. She served as Chair of the Patient Safety Movement Foundation (PSMF) Workgroup on Moderate Sedation and a member of Opioid Actionable Patient Safety Solutions. She is currently serving on the PSMF Workgroup in developing content for the patient engagement website where patients having surgery can find questions and answers about their anesthesia. 

Bernadette wrote the gold standard book on didactic and clinical teaching in Nurse Anesthesia widely in use today.
