Amy is an Assistant Professor in the UAB School of Nursing and the Interim Director of the BSN-DNP Nurse Anesthesia Program. She received her Master’s in Nurse Anesthesia (MNA) from UAB in 2011 and a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from Texas Christian University in 2020.
Dr. Yerdon has many years of experience providing anesthesia in a busy, high-acuity OR in a level-1 trauma center, managing quality improvement projects, and teaching in the clinical setting. Her career goal is to impact the anesthesia profession through education to improve patient outcomes and experience. While maintaining her clinical practice, Dr. Yerdon’s passions include major abdominal surgery, intraoperative hemodynamic management and goal-directed therapy, substance use disorder, and clinical preceptor education. She has given presentations on these topics at local state, regional, and national levels and published manuscripts on hemodynamic management and teaching in the clinical setting.
She has served on various committees for the Alabama Association of Nurse Anesthetists (ALANA), as Director on the board, and as Chair of the Professional Development Committee. She has served as a member of the National Board for Certification and Recertification of Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA), Continued Professional Certification Assessment (CPCA) Item Writing Committee, and CPCA Professional Practice Advisory Panel.
She currently serves as the Vice Chair of the American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology (AANA) Practice Committee (Chair Elect, 2026-2027).
Dr. Yerdon was inducted as a Fellow of the AANA in 2025, a significant career achievement that signifies a commitment to excellence and demonstrates impactful contributions to the field of nurse anesthesiology.
